history

The diocese of San was founded on April 10, 1962 by Pope John XXIII. from the cession of territory by the diocese of Nouna as Mission sui juris San . The Mission sui juris San was founded on September 29, 1964 by Pope Paul VI. with the Apostolic Constitution Qui benignissimo raised to the diocese and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Bamako as a suffragan .
