The Erzbistum Tamale ( latin Archidioecesis Tamalensis ) is an in Ghana preferred Roman Catholic diocese based in Tamale . The mother church of the Archdiocese is the Cathedral of Our Lady Of Annunciation in Tamale.

history

The forerunner of today's archbishopric was the Apostolic Prefecture of Navrongo , which was founded on January 11, 1926 by Pope Pius XI. was established with cessions of territory from the Vicariate Apostolic Ouagadougou ; the first prefect was Oscar Morin MAfr . In 1934 the prefecture was elevated to a vicariate . By Pope Pius XII. 1950 the elevation to the diocese of Tamale; the first bishop was the Apostolic Episcopal Vicar Gérard Bertrand MAfr . Pope Paul VI 1977 elevated the diocese to an archbishopric ; the first archbishop was Peter Poreku Dery .

The suffragan dioceses Navrongo-Bolgatanga (1956), Wa (1959), Damongo (1995) and Yendi (1999) were established.
