Philip Naameh

Philip Naameh (born September 8, 1948 in Nandom-Ko , Ghana ) is Archbishop of Tamale .

Life

Philip Naameh attended St. Charles Minor Seminary and Government Secondary School in Tamale from 1962 . After graduating from high school, he worked in a medical laboratory for a year. In 1971 he entered St. Victor's Major Seminary in Tamale and studied philosophy and theology . From 1973 to 1976 he completed a degree in theology at the University of Ghana . In 1977 Philip Naameh was ordained a priest and worked at the cathedral in Tamale as well as for the diocesan administration in the lay council and head of various schools. From 1981 to 1986 he studied in Germany and France; at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster , he received his doctorate in church history under Arnold Angenendt . During this time he was a subsidiary in the parish of St. Anna in Münster-Mecklenbeck. In 1986 he returned to Ghana and was a lecturer at St. Victor's Major Seminary until 1995 . In 1992 he completed a postgraduate master's degree in African history at the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London .

Pope John Paul II appointed him in 1995 as the first bishop of the newly founded diocese of Damongo . He was ordained bishop on May 28, 1995 by Jozef Cardinal Tomko , Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples ; Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Ho , Francis Anani Kofi Lodonu , and the Archbishop of Tamale, Gregory Ebolawola Kpiebaya . In the newly established diocese he built up the diocesan structures and created a peace center to deal with ethnic conflicts. In the Episcopal Conference of Ghana he was committed to education. He is responsible for the Justice and Peace Commission and served as a military chaplain from 1995 to 2004 .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed Philip Naameh Archbishop of Tamale in 2009 to succeed Archbishop Gregory Ebolawola Kpiebaya, who had retired at the age of 75.

At the ceremony for the 80th birthday of Arnold Angenendt on September 12, 2014 in the Franz-Wärme-Haus in Münster, he led the festive Vespers .
