history

In 1468 a "Hanmansmühle" was mentioned in a document, named after the family name of the miller at that time. In 1790 a new mill was built in its place by the Ansbach margrave Karl Alexander , which was named after him and operated a fulling mill. In addition to the name “Alexandermühle”, the old name remained in use until the end of the 19th century.

Towards the end of the 18th century, the Alexander Mill belonged to Wernsbach . She had the Brandenburg-Ansbach Abbey Office in Ansbach as landlord . Under the Prussian administration (1792–1806) of the Principality of Ansbach, the Alexandermühle received the number 31 of the place Wernsbach when the house numbers were assigned. From 1797 to 1808 the place was under the judiciary and chamber office of Ansbach .

As part of the municipal edict , Alexandermühle was assigned to the Wernsbach tax district, which was formed in 1808 . It also belonged to the rural community of Wernsbach, founded in 1811 . On January 1, 1974, this was incorporated into the municipality of Weihenzell as part of the regional reform .

Since 1983, the equipment of the listed mill has been in the open air museum Bad Windsheim .
