history
The place was first mentioned in 1168 under this name. The defining word of the place name is the personal name Wippo. A person of this name can be assumed to be the founder of the settlement. Strangely enough, the name was spoken and written in the 15th century and also in 1807 in an official report by the pastor “Wickendorf” responsible for the place.
Towards the end of the 18th century there were six properties in Wippendorf (4 courtyards, 2 estates). The high court exercised the Brandenburg-Ansbach Hofkastenamt Ansbach . The village and township government had the pen Office Ansbach held. All properties were owned by the Ansbach Abbey as the landlord . In addition to the property, there were also communal buildings (shepherd's house, breaker's house ). There were seven subject families at that time. From 1797 to 1808 the place was under the judiciary and chamber office of Ansbach .
As part of the municipal edict, Wippendorf was assigned to the Katterbach tax district formed in 1808 . It also belonged to the rural community of Katterbach, founded in 1811 . With the second community edict (1818) Wippendorf was re-ceded to Weihenzell . On April 8, 1830 Wippendorf was umgemeindet in the newly formed community Grüb . This was incorporated into Weihenzell on January 1, 1974 as part of the regional reform .
