Katterbach (colloquially: Kad ə ʳba ) is a district of the independent city of Ansbach in Middle Franconia .

geography

The place is divided into the northwestern village to which the Katterbach barracks adjoins to the east, the Ansbach-Katterbach airfield to the south and the Bismarck barracks even further south. The Hirnbach rises north of the village and joins the Schwarzenbach (left) to the Dürrnbach, which is a left tributary of the Haselbach. In the south lies the Neukirchner Feld , where the Milmersbach rises, which is a left tributary of the Franconian Rezat .

The federal highway 14 leads to Obereichenbach (2 km west) or to Wicklesgreuth (4 km east). Communal roads lead to Thurndorf (2 km north-east), Untereichenbach (1.5 km south-west) and to state road 2246 near Obereichenbach (1 km north-west).

history

The village was first mentioned by name in 1303 as "Katerbach". The place name is derived from the name of the water body Katerbach, which was used to describe a stream that dried up due to the draining of the Katterbach pond. The meaning of the name of the water cannot be clarified. Katterbach is a hillside settlement that emerged when the Eichenbachgrund was already cultivated.

In 1460, Duke Louis IX attacked. of Bavaria and its allies the Ansbach Margrave Albrecht Achilles . Thereby one looted and destroyed by fire, among others, Eyb and the neighboring villages of Alberndorf , Grüb , Hirschbronn , Katterbach, Obereichenbach , Pfaffengreuth and Untereichenbach .

In the 16-point report of the Ansbach District Office from 1684, five teams were listed for Katterbach. Three properties were subordinate to the court box office in Ansbach , one property of the Mendelschen Twelve Brothers Foundation of the imperial city of Nuremberg and one property of the blessed heirs of Chamber Councilor Husswedel. The high court and the village and community authority exercised the Brandenburg-Ansbachische Hofkastenamt Ansbach.

According to the official description of the Lichtenau Nursing Office from 1748, the place belonged to the main team of Saxony. There were five subject families, one of which was Nuremberg.

At the end of the 18th century there were six properties in Katterbach. The court box office in Ansbach continued to exercise the high court and the village and community rule. The landlords were the Hofkastenamt Ansbach (2 farms with taverns ), the Ansbach owner von Knebel (1 farm) and the Mendelsche Twelve Brothers Foundation (1 farm). In addition to the property, there were also communal buildings (shepherd's house, breaker's house ). There were five subject families, four of which were Ansbachian. From 1797 to 1808 the place was under the judiciary and chamber office of Ansbach .

In 1806 Katterbach came to the Kingdom of Bavaria . As part of the municipal edict, the tax district Katterbach was formed in 1808 , to which Fischhaus , Gebersdorf , Katterbach, Neukirchen , Obereichenbach and Wengenstadt and Wippendorf belonged. The rural community of Katterbach was founded in 1811 and was congruent with the tax district. It was subject to the Ansbach Regional Court in administration and jurisdiction and to the Ansbach Rent Office in the financial administration .

With the second community edict (1818), the rural community of Katterbach was dissolved:

  • Neukirchen to the rural community Eyb ;
  • Fischhaus, Katterbach, Obereichenbach and Wengenstadt to the rural community of Hennenbach ;
  • Gebersdorf and Wippendorf to the rural community Weihenzell .

In 1935 construction began on the airfield, which was known as "Ansbach-Neukirchen" until the war years. On July 21, 1936, the topping-out ceremony was held at the Katterbach airfield and in November 1936, the 5th squadron of Kampfgeschwader 155 was relocated from Gablingen and Giebelstadt to Ansbach. In the end, three squadrons and a news train were stationed in Ansbach. The Luftwaffe units stationed in Ansbach were grouped together under the name “Kampfgeschwader 53 (KG 53)” and on June 12, 1939 they were given the traditional name “Legion Condor”. After the end of the war until today, the base and the Katterbach airfield were expanded by the US armed forces and the "katterbach village" was rebuilt on the southern edge of the airfield. The buildings along the main road are essentially still the Wehrmacht buildings.

On July 1, 1972, the municipality of Hennenbach and the associated districts were incorporated into the city of Ansbach as part of the regional reform .

U.S. Army military base

Katterbach is a location of the U.S. Army . In 2007 around 2000 soldiers from the 4th Army Aviation Brigade of the 1st Infantry Division were stationed there. In March 2007, the Nürnberger Nachrichten reported that the location should be expanded.

On April 29, 2015, the U.S. Army announced an extensive troop reduction in connection with the restructuring of the 12th Combat Helicopter Brigade.

Residents complain (as of the end of 2017) about aircraft noise from helicopters taking off and landing at night.

The place has been Protestant since the Reformation. The residents of the Evangelical Lutheran denomination are parish to St. Johannis (Ansbach) , the residents of the Roman Catholic denomination to St. Ludwig (Ansbach) .
