history

The place was first mentioned by name in 1303 as "Celle apud Onolspach", from 1342 as "Wazzer cell". The place name means to the monastery courtyard by the water . Places that end in “–zell” are almost always foundations that started out from a monastery. For Wasserzell only the Gumbertus monastery comes into question. Since this monastery was dissolved no later than 1012, one can assume that the place was founded before that. As a rule, these cells are farms, in which case it may have been a fishery.

The monastery Heilsbronn received his mid-14th century a courtyard.

In the 16-point report of the Ansbach Regional Office from 1684, 16 teams were recorded for Wasserzell. Eight properties (four courtyards, one half courtyard, two estates, one Gütlein) were subordinate to the court box office of Ansbach , seven properties to the monastery office of Ansbach and one property to the monastery administration office in Heilsbronn . There was also a communal shepherd's house. The high court and the village and community authority exercised the Brandenburg-Ansbachische Hofkastenamt Ansbach.

Towards the end of the 18th century there were 17 properties and a community shepherd's house in Wasserzell. The court box office in Ansbach continued to exercise the high court and the village and community rule. The Principality of Ansbach was the landlord (Hofkastenamt Ansbach: 5 courtyards, 3 Söldengüter ; Stiftsamt Ansbach: 1 courtyard, 1 Gütlein, 4 Söldengüter, 1 mill, 1 forge; Heilsbronn monastery administrator: 1 courtyard). From 1797 to 1808 the place was under the judiciary and chamber office of Ansbach .

As part of the community edict, Wasserzell mit Mühle was assigned to the Schalkhausen tax district formed in 1809 . With the new formation of the tax district Neuses near Ansbach on June 23, 1810, the change took place there. It also belonged to the rural community of Neuses near Ansbach, founded in 1811 . This was incorporated into the city of Ansbach on July 1, 1972 as part of the regional reform .
