Wengenstadt (colloquially: Wengglschdad ) is a district of the independent city of Ansbach , Middle Franconia .

geography

The village is located on the Weihergraben, a right tributary of the Eichenbach, which in turn is a left tributary of the Franconian Rezat . The place is surrounded by forest to the west, north and east. 0.5 km south is the Urlas corridor with a US Army firing range .

A community connecting road leads to Wippendorf (2 km northeast) or to the district road ANs 2 / AN 9 (0.6 km southwest), which passes Grüb to Neumühle (4 km north) or via Kammerforst to Ansbach to the B 13 (2, 5 km south).

history

The place was first mentioned in 1246 as "Wenegestat". The defining word of the place name is the Middle High German word “wēnic”, which originally meant lamentable, miserable , later also small . The place name means a miserable or small dwelling. Like Kammerforst, the place was probably created as a clearing settlement.

Various goods and income in the village came to the St. Gumbertuss Foundation through Wolfram von Dornberg's will in 1288 and more through a foundation by his widow Richza in 1309 . The Schenkenstein taverns also had an estate there, which they sold to the monastery in 1406. The place came to the burgraviate of Nuremberg at the same time as the city of Ansbach through purchase from the Counts of Oettingen .

In the 16-point report of the Ansbach District Office from 1684, five teams were listed for Wengenstadt. Two properties were subordinate to the Ansbach court box office and three properties to the Ansbach monastery office . There was also a shepherd's house and 200 acres of wood owned by the entire congregation. The high court and the village and community authority exercised the Brandenburg-Ansbachische Hofkastenamt Ansbach.

There were five properties in Wengenstadt towards the end of the 18th century. The court box office in Ansbach continued to exercise the high court and the village and community rule. All properties had the Principality of Ansbach as the landlord (Hofkastenamt Ansbach: 1 half courtyard, 1 estate; Stiftsamt Ansbach: 3 half courtyards). In addition to the property, there were also communal buildings (shepherd's house, breaker's house ). From 1797 to 1808 the place was under the judiciary and chamber office of Ansbach .

As part of the municipal edict, Wengenstadt was assigned to the Katterbach tax district formed in 1808 . It also belonged to the rural community of Katterbach, founded in 1811 . With the second municipal edict (1818) the place was re- municipalityed to Hennenbach .

On July 1, 1972, Wengenstadt was incorporated into the city of Ansbach as part of the regional reform .
