The wasteland lies on a plateau that slopes west, north and east. The Grübesberg ( 479  m above sea level ) rises about one kilometer to the southwest , the eastern flank is called the Mistlersberg . history

When the original, in 15./16. It is unclear that the farm was founded in the 18th century. In 1726 the farmer Zeller from Grüb bought the overgrown property, cleared it and built a new farm in 1732. This was first mentioned in 1742 as "Schmalenbach's Hof" and is said to have been owned by a Mr. von Seckendorff at that time. The place was named after the narrow brook where the wasteland lies (today called Grundbach), a right tributary of the Wernsbach, which flows right into the Rippach . In the 19th century the courtyard was deserted and a few hundred meters away, a new courtyard was built on the grounds of the old courtyard. Since this is located on a hill, it is colloquially called "Buckhaus".

Towards the end of the 18th century there was an estate in Schmalnbachshof. The high court exercised the Brandenburg-Ansbach Hofkastenamt Ansbach . The estate with the economy was owned by the Hofkastenamt Ansbach as the landlord. From 1797 to 1808 the place was under the judiciary and chamber office of Ansbach .

With the community edict, Schmalnbachshof was assigned to the Wernsbach tax district formed in 1808 . It also belonged to the rural community of Wernsbach, founded in 1811 . On January 1, 1974, this was incorporated into the municipality of Weihenzell as part of the regional reform .
