The parish church of Santa Maria della Scala is a Roman Catholic church in Chieri, Piedmont . Because of its size and age, it is traditionally called the Chieri Cathedral .

The church is located in the center of the old town of Chieri in Piazza Santa Lucia .
history
Today's church is on the site of a Roman sanctuary , which is attributed to the goddess Minerva based on tradition and excavation findings under the main altar . A church was built on this in the 5th century and dedicated to the Virgin Mary . A new building in the Romanesque style was carried out before 1037 by the Bishop of Turin, Landolfo.
The Gothic church was built in its current form from 1405 and consecrated in 1437.
The side chapels were renovated in the second half of the 19th century.
