Santiago Romero , full name Santiago Ernesto Romero Fernández , (born February 15, 1990 in Montevideo ) is a Uruguayan football player .

Career

society

The 1.76 meter tall midfielder Santiago "Colo" Romero played baby fútbol at Don Bosco in his childhood . He then stood in the ranks of Nacional ( AUFI ). From there his way led to the youth department of Defensor Sporting . In early 2009 Romero moved to Nacional Montevideo , where he should initially play in the Cuarta División . With the team he became Uruguayan champion in his age group and in the following year also decided the Torneo Clausura in the Tercera División in favor of Nacionals. He was with the Bolsos at least since the Clausura 2010 in the first division squad. For the Bolsos , he has since played twelve games in the Primera División . In the 2010/11 season, however, there are no appearances for Romero. He also completed eleven Copa Libertadores matches . He has not yet achieved competitive goals in these competitions. In the 2011/12 season he was Uruguayan champions with his team. After the 2012/13 season he joined the Chilean club Deportes Iquique as part of a loan deal , as he did not get the hoped-for deployment times with the Bolsos . With the Chileans he ran 35 times in the Primera División and scored eight goals. He also played twelve times in the Copa Chile MTS in 2013/14 (two goals), which his club won in April 2014. In the 3-1 final win over Huachipato Romero was part of the starting line-up. In the season preparation for the 2014/15 season he was back in the Nacionals squad. In the 2014/15 season he was used in 24 first division games (one goal) and two games (no goal) of the 2015 Copa Libertadores . His club won the Uruguayan championship. During the 2015/16 season he played 25 top division games (four goals), four games (one goal) in the Copa Sudamericana 2015 and nine encounters (one goal) in the Copa Libertadores 2016 . In the 2016 season, in which he again won the national championship title with the “Bolsos”, he made 14 league appearances (two goals). During the 2017 season he played in 14 other league games (one goal) and six times (no goal) in the 2017 Copa Libertadores until the end of the Torneo Intermedio . In the second half of July 2017, he was loaned to the Argentine first division club Rosario Central .

National team

Romero was a member of the Uruguayan U-15 team coached by Ángel Castelnoble , which took part in the U-15 South American Championship in Bolivia in 2005 . In the run-up to the 2012 Summer Olympics, he was also part of the U-23 squad set up by national coach Óscar Tabárez .
