As part of the administrative reorganization in Portugal, Santo Estêvão das Galés was merged with the municipality of Venda do Pinheiro on September 29, 2013 to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Venda do Pinheiro e Santo Estêvão das Galés . The seat was the new municipality Venda do Pinheiro.
