Santo Stefano di Sessano

Santo Stefano di Sessano is a church and the only remnant of the former village of Sessano near Chiaverano in Piedmont in Italy . Sessano was likely damaged by a landslide .

The Romanesque building dates from the 11th century. The bell tower serves as the entrance; this is a characteristic which other Romanesque churches in the area have.

Today's church has a single nave . The sacristy was added to the apse during the baroque period . The exterior of the apse is decorated with four pilaster strips . The interior of the apse shows frescoes from the 11th century : in the middle there is Jesus with the symbols of the evangelists and below are fourteen figures of apostles and saints .
