Sara Duterte-Carpio (* 31 May 1976 in Davao City as Sara Zimmerman Duterte ) is a Filipino lawyer and politician. Since June 20, 2016, she has been mayor of Davao City in the Philippines again , after previously holding this office from 2010 to 2013. She is often referred to as Inday Sara in public and as Inday Sara Z. Duterte on the Davao City website . The term Inday is a common form of address in the southern Philippines for female family members and has roughly the meaning of esteemed daughter or esteemed sister .

Life

Sara Duterte is the daughter of Rodrigo Duterte , a Filipino politician and current President of the Philippines , and Elisabeth Abellana Zimmerman, the daughter of German-American immigrants. After training to be a lawyer, she was elected to the office of Vice Mayor of Davao City in 2007. Sara Duterte ran for mayor in the elections in May 2010 and won the election by over 200,000 votes over the second-placed candidate Prospero Nograles . After being sworn in on June 28, 2010, she took over the office of mayor on June 30, 2010 from her father Rodrigo Duterte, who had been mayor of the city for a total of 20 years with interruptions. She became the 21st mayor of Davao City, at the age of 32 the youngest and at the same time the first woman in the history of the city to hold this office. After a term of office, her father Rodrigo Duterte was re-elected mayor of the city in 2013. When he no longer ran for office in 2016, but instead applied for the office of President of the Philippines and also won the presidential election, Sara Duterte was re-elected Mayor of Davao City and sworn in for her second term on June 20, 2016.

Sara Duterte has been married to the lawyer Manases Carpio since October 27, 2007 and has three children with him.
