Sarah Elisabeth Mullally , née Sarah Bowser DBE (born March 26, 1962 ) is a British Anglican Bishop of the Church of England . In December 2017 she was appointed Bishop of London to succeed Bishop Emeritus Richard Chartres .

Life

Sarah Mullally is the daughter of Michael and Ann Bowser. She attended Winston Churchill Comprehensive School in Woking and trained in nursing at Nightingale School of Nursing and London South Bank University . She worked at St Thomas' Hospital , among others . Further stations in her professional work were the Royal Marsden Hospital and Westminster Hospital . In 1999 she was appointed Chief Nursing Officer and Director of Patient Experience for England at the UK Department of Health. She held this office until 2004.

In 2001 Sarah Mullally was ordained an Anglican Deaconess and in 2002 an Anglican Priestess. On July 22, 2015, she was ordained by Archbishop Justin Welby as Anglican Auxiliary Bishop of Crediton in the Diocese of Exeter . She has been married to Eamonn Mullally since 1987 and has two children with him.

After her appointment as Bishop of London, she became a member of the Privy Council on March 14, 2018 . On April 10, 2018, she was inducted into the House of Lords as a spiritual lord .

Her official inauguration as bishop at St Paul's Cathedral took place on May 12, 2018.
