Sarah Wedl-Wilson (* 1969 in Watford , United Kingdom ) is a British cultural manager. From 2014 to 2018 she was Vice Rector for External Relations and Interim Rector of the Mozarteum University in Salzburg . Since October 1, 2019, she has been the rector of the Hanns Eisler University of Music in Berlin .

education and profession

As a child, Wedl-Wilson received intensive music lessons and studied violin with Eva Gruenberg , Marta Eitler and Diana Cummings . She has acted as concertmaster in various youth and amateur orchestras and her string quartet has won several awards at the National Chamber Music Competition for Schools . From 1987–1991 she studied linguistics (French and German) at Emmanuel College, Cambridge and obtained an MA ( Cantab. ) Degree . She spent a year of study abroad as a lecturer at the Gymnasium am Rosterberg , Siegen NRW, where she taught English and music.

Wedl-Wilson began her career as a cultural manager in 1991, first with the International Management Group , London, then with the Camerata Salzburg . In 1996/97 she headed the operations office of the Cologne Philharmonic and was artistic director at Schloss Elmau from 1997–2000 . In 2000 she became the managing director of the Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alten Musik GmbH, which she led alongside artistic director René Jacobs for ten years. In 2009 she founded a culture consulting company , Wilson Arts Projects , with which she initiates, supervises and advises cultural and educational projects. 2012–2014 she was managing director of the Camerata Salzburg. In 2014 she was appointed Vice Rector for External Relations at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg and took over the interim management of the house in 2017. Wedl-Wilson has been Senior Advisor at Arts Executive Search, a headhunting company specializing in executive management in the cultural sector, since the end of 2018 .

In May 2019 she was elected as the new Rector by the Extended Academic Senate of the Hanns Eisler University of Music Berlin, and on October 1, 2019 she succeeded Robert Ehrlich .
