The Atzgersdorf coffin factory is located at Breitenfurter Straße 176 in the 23rd district of Liesing in the city of Vienna . The Wiener Stadtwerke Bestattung Wien factory, which was used to produce coffins from 1966 to 2013, is a listed building ( list entry ).

history

The former machine, box and wood goods factory Koffmahn was built from 1913 to 1916 according to the plans of the architect Hubert Gessner . In 1967 various technical systems were rebuilt.

Since 2015, the building has been used as a cultural center by the IG-F23 cultural association - under the name F23 - "F23.wir.fabriken" . At the beginning of 2018 criticism was voiced that the use was predominantly of a commercial nature and that the chance of a low-threshold cultural offer was practically about to expire.

architecture

The elongated factory complex shows exposed tiles made of gray clinker in functional shapes. The factory is divided into a workshop and a high water tower with further office, living and staff wings with different building heights and a respective facade structure according to the functions. The administrative area shows an attic and arched windows. The factory hall with sturdy wall pillars with lock irons and false ceilings shows transversely mounted lattice windows and ribbon windows. The water tower over a square floor plan has a cantilevered upper floor with strong consoles. There are side balconies made of wrought iron and in the courtyard an outside staircase with wrought iron railings.
