Saroj Khaparde

Saroj Khaparde (born August 15, 1941 in Bombay , then British India ) is a former Indian politician of the Indian National Congress (INC), who was a member of the Rajya Sabha between 1972 and 1974 and again from 1976 to 2000 . She was also Minister of State from 1980 to 1982 and from 1986 to 1989, and most recently from 1994 to 2000 the office of Vice-President of the Rajya Sabha.

Life

On April 3, 1972, Saroj Khaparde became a member of the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament, for the first time for the Indian National Congress and was a member of this until April 2, 1974. During this time she also held the post of Minister of State for Health in the second government of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi between 1972 and 1974.

On April 3, 1976, she became a member of the Rajya Sabha again as a representative of the Congress Party and was a member of the Rajya Sabha for 24 years until April 2, 2000. During this time, she was appointed Minister of State for Family Welfare in their second and third governments by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1976 and was a member of this until 1982. After that, between 1982 and 1984 she was chair of the so-called House Committee , a committee to which the chairmen of the committees of the Rajya Sabha belong.

During the tenure of Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi , she was a member of his government from 1984 to 1989 , initially as Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare from 1984 to 1988, as Minister of State for Health between 1988 and 1989 and finally as Minister of State for Textiles in 1989. During this time, in 1986, among other things, it submitted a draft law to prevent food adulteration. As Minister of State for Health, she supported Rotary International's Polio Plus project .

In the last legislative period, Saroj Khaparde was Vice President of the Rajya Sabha from 1994 to 2000. At the same time, she was in 1996 and again from 1998 to 2000 chairwoman of the upper house committee for subordinate legislation and in the meantime from 1996 to 1998 chairwoman of the committee of the Rajya Sabha for assurances of the government.
