The Saroma Lake ( Japanese サ ロ マ 湖 , Saroma-ko ) is the third largest inland lake in Japan and the largest on the island of Hokkaidō . It is located in the Okhotsk sub-prefecture . A 20 km long spit separates it from the Sea of Okhotsk ; because of an opening in this the water is brackish .
The Saroma Lake 100 km ultramarathon has been held on the shores of the lake since 1986 .
