SaskPower is a Canadian utility company based in Regina , Saskatchewan . The company operates multiple power plants in Saskatchewan and Alberta and is wholly owned by the Canadian province of Saskatchewan.

history

SaskPower was founded in 1929 as the Saskatchewan Power Commission to coordinate the electricity supply of the province of Saskatchewan. In the same year, the company commissioned its first power plant, the Humboldt Generating Station . In 1949 the name was changed to Saskatchewan Power Corporation , which has since acted as Crown Corporation ( public company ).

In 1959, work began on the South Saskatchewan River dam project , which also includes the Coteau Creek hydropower station. In 1963 the new headquarters of SaskPower was opened in Regina . Since 1987 the company has appeared under the acronym SaskPower.
