Sass Henno

Sass Henno (born September 13, 1982 in Tartu ) is an Estonian writer .

life and work

From 1989 to 2001 Sass Henno attended the renowned Miina-Härma-Gymnasium in Tartu in southern Estonia. From 2001 to 2003 he studied computer graphics and advertising at the Tartu Higher Art School. From 2003 to 2005 he studied film, video and media directing at the Tallinn Pedagogical University . In 2007 he began studying scriptwriting at the Baltic Film and Media School (BMF) in Tallinn . Henno also works as an assistant and director for the Estonian public television company ETV .

Henno made his debut as a writer in 2003 with his first literary work, which was initially only available on the Internet. It was entitled Elu algab täna (“Life begins today”), but it was taken seriously and reviewed by Estonian literary magazines.

Henno's second internet novel , Mina olin siin. Esimene arest ("I was here. The first arrest"), then brought his literary breakthrough. The work won the Estonian novel competition in 2004 and became an acclaimed bestseller. In 2005 it was printed as a book. It was also made into a film in 2008 (directed by René Vilbre , screenplay by Ilmar Raag ). The story is about Rass, a 17-year-old elite student who turns into a drug dealer.

This was followed in 2005 by the children's story Mereröövlimäng ("Pirate Game ") and in 2006 the book version of Elu algab täna . In 2007 Henno shot the short film Südameasjad ("Affair of the Heart").

Sass Henno has been a member of the Estonian Writers' Union since September 2005 .
