Sattelhof

A Sattelhof (also Saddel- , Sadel- , Sedel- , Setel- or Zedelhof ) was one of compulsory labor and many duties free commodity on which the jurisdiction rested on the part of it and courtyards. The name is derived from the Middle High German word "satel", which denoted a certain acreage, which, however, differed in size from region to region.

Although these goods were freed from the labor , there were mostly other burdens on them. The owners of these farms had to provide horses to the landlord or pay a certain amount of tax. In the event of war, an armed man on horseback was to be provided.

Larger saddle farms sometimes had to provide several horses and riders. Such farms were called saddle goods .
