Saturnino Lizano Gutiérrez (born November 29, 1826 in Esparza, Costa Rica, † April 19, 1905 in San José (Costa Rica) ) was President of Costa Rica from July 6 to August 10, 1882 .

Life

His parents were Mrs. Gutiérrez y Flores and Mr. Lizano y Avendaño Saturnino Lizano Gutiérrez was a member of the Partido Libaral

He married Angélica Guardia Solórzano, daughter of Tomás Guardia Gutiérrez, on April 4, 1875. Two children were born in this marriage: Gonzalo and María del Rosario Lizano Guardia. He was a farmer and trader preferably in the Puntarenas area .

1869-1870 he was a member of parliament. In 1870 he was a delegate to a constituent assembly. From May to July 1876 he was government minister and industry minister. In July 1876 he was Minister General. From 1876 to 1877 he was Minister for Government, Public Works, War and the Navy. July – August 1876 he was Foreign Minister. From 1877 to 1878 he was finance officer for the government of Costa Rica in London. 1880-1882 he was government minister and 1881-1882 deputy of his father-in-law, the president.

Presidency

When his father-in-law, Tomás Guardia Gutiérrez, fell ill in July 1882 , he became executive president. When Tomás Guardia Gutiérrez died on July 6th, 1882 he remained executive president. On July 20, 1882, he appointed the seventh deputy, Próspero Fernández Oreamuno, to take over his office. He took office on August 10, 1882.

After the presidency, he was a replacement for Alajuela , and a member and governor for Puntarenas.
