Savage was founded in 1978 in Mansfield , England. She is one of the better known representatives of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal .
history
Chris Bradley ( electric bass and vocals ), guitarists Wayne Renshaw and Andy Dawson and drummer Dave Lindley formed the first permanent line-up. In 1982 the single "Ain't No Fit Place" led to the contract for the debut album "Loose'n'Lethal" with Ebony Records. The LP "one of the greatest heavy metal hopes in England" ( Dave Constable ) sold over 25,000 copies in a short time. The cheaply produced, extremely raw sound was important for the development of speed and thrash metal . Metallica covered the Savage song "Let It Loose" at the beginning of their career.
In 1984 a contract was signed with the Zebra Records label , under which the EP "We Got the Edge" and the second album "Hyperactive" were released. Due to the lack of success of this LP, Savage broke up in 1986. Its members remained active with Rebel, XL and in a Thin Lizzy cover band, among others.
In the mid-1990s, the Neat Metal label made a targeted attempt to get the New Wave of British Heavy Metal going again by releasing CDs of Blitzkrieg , Holocaust or the Northern Irish Sweet Savage on the market. Savage also got a second chance from this label and took advantage of it. The third album "Holy Wars" led to its first appearance in Germany in 1996 at the first Bang Your Head Festival with Blind Guardian . A few busy years followed for Chris Bradley and Andy Dawson of the original line-up and first Dave Lindley, later Richard Kirk on drums. Andy Wilson helped to complete the band, especially for live appearances as the second guitarist.
The fourth album "Babylon", which was accompanied for the first time by a video clip, showed the band from their more melancholy side, and Thin Lizzy emerged as the most important musical influence more clearly than ever before . In 2000 Savage played live at the Wacken Open Air . After the stylistic break with the consciously more modern sounding fifth album "Xtreme Machine" "beyond the tolerance limit of many metalheads", the band fell silent, but they have not officially split up and are planning a sixth album.
