The Sava tooth root ( Cardamine waldsteinii ) is a species of the cruciferous family (Brassicaceae).

features

The Sava tooth root, also called Illyrian tooth root, is a geophyte and reaches heights of 12 to 30, rarely 50 cm. It has a horizontal rhizome covered with fleshy scales . All leaves are fingered in three parts. The stem leaves are alternate. The inflorescence is erect. The crown is white. The stamens are shorter than the petals. The anthers are purple. Flowering time is from April to June.

Distribution and locations

The Sava tooth root occurs in Austria, Slovenia, Hungary, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Montenegro.

Its main area of ​​distribution is in Slovenia. In Austria it is seldom found in the colline to montane elevations in southern western Styria and possibly in southern Carinthia.

It grows in moist deciduous forests, is a character species of the Illyrian beech forests, of the Aremonio-Fagion association. It also occurs in floodplain and ravine forests and is weakly chalk-loving.

Taxonomy

The Sava tooth root has long been listed as a representative of its own genus Dentaria , and was then called Dentaria trifolia , for example in the second edition of the "List of Vascular Plants of Central Europe" from 1973 and the first two editions of the Austrian excursion flora from 1994 and 2005.

Other synonyms are Cardamine savensis O.E. Schulz and Dentaria savensis O.E. Schulz .
