Save Me is a song by the British rock band Queen , written by guitarist Brian May , recorded in June / July 1979 and released as a single on January 25th , and then also on the album The Game . It is also featured on several live albums , such as Queen on Fire - Live at the Bowl and on several compilation albums , such as Queen Forever or Greatest Hits .

Brian May wrote the piece about a friend whose relationship had just ended.

The song was Queens' first song to use synthesizers .

During live performances during the game and flash tours, May played piano until the second chorus . He then played the guitar and Mercury took over the piano.
