Saveh ( Persian ساوه) is the capital of the Saveh district in Markazi Province in northwestern Iran .

Geographical location

The city is located about 130 km southwest of Tehran . In 2012 the city had over 201,000 inhabitants.

history

Saveh has been the seat of government throughout the history of the country and there are a number of historic buildings and ruins dating from that period. According to Marco Polo , the three wise men came from the city called "Saba" at the time and their tomb could still be visited there.

From 2004 to 2006, Mehri Roustaie Gherailou was the city's mayor. She was the second woman in the history of the Islamic Republic of Iran to hold such an office.

economy

Saveh belongs to a state-sponsored economic region. To the northeast of Saveh is Kaveh , a so-called industrial city . More than 1,000 small and several large companies are based here. The main branches of industry are metal processing, glass and ceramic production, as well as chemistry and pharmaceuticals.

traffic

A well-developed motorway connection leads to Tehran.

The city lies on the railway line (Tehran) -Robat Karim-Sanandaj . The single-track line should enable a speed of 160 km / h and will be opened in 2016.
