Sayoko Yamaguchi ( Japanese 山口 小 夜 子 , Yamaguchi Sayoko ; born September 19, 1950 in the Japanese prefecture of Kanagawa ; † August 14, 2007 ) was a Japanese mannequin and an actress , costume designer and makeup artist .

Yamaguchi was the first supermodel from Asia in the 1970s; In 1972 she made her debut at the Paris fashion shows and soon became famous as the "ultimate Japanese beauty". In 1977 the American magazine Newsweek selected her among the six top models in the world.

After her modeling career, she was successful as a theater and film actress. Among other things, she played in 1981 with Klaus Kinski in Shūji Terayamas " The fruits of passion ". In addition, she also designed costumes and masks for the stage and screen.

Sayoko Yamaguchi died of acute pneumonia on August 14, 2007 at the age of 56 .
