Scène de Ballet Op. 100 is a piece of music for solo violin and orchestra by Charles-Auguste de Bériot . It appeared in 1857. Beriot, himself a violin virtuoso in the Paganini tradition , wrote this work as a combination of indulgent melodies with dances such as waltzes and bolero with symphonic dramaturgy.

Work description

The piece begins with a fast Allegro vivace, with many short notes and chords , whereby the solo violin is integrated into the orchestra with chords. In the next bars, the solo violin begins with a solo part in which the orchestra or piano only accompanies eighth notes. With a “ recitative ” in which the orchestra (or piano) and solo violin play alternately, and a “tempo più lento”, the transition into an “Adagio cantabile” takes place, in which, in contrast to the opening part, a very flowing melody sounds . The "Adagio cantabile" ends with a fermatas -Ornament and upward runs into the piano, so that a contrast to the subsequent virtuoso "Tempo di bolero" arises because the orchestra the brass form forte entry into this part of the piece. In this part there is always a change between very virtuoso passages, such as B. a “ ricochet ” passage in which the bow is dropped onto the strings and thus made to jump, and highly romantic passages that are overwritten with “grazioso”. The highlight of this part is the " arpeggio " section, which has to be played with a jumped bow. Then it goes directly into a waltz part, which is characterized on the one hand by liveliness and fast runs. With gradually increasing volume it goes into an “Adagio”, which is first played in fortissimo and then repeated an octave lower in piano . In addition, the whole orchestra plays first and then only the solo violin with orchestral accompaniment in the deeper part. After a renewed decoration of the Fermatas, it turns into an “Allegro appassionato”, where you can already tell that the piece is coming to the end, as there is a clear increase in tempo and a certain fieriness. The conclusion is a “Più animato” in Alla Breve rhythm.
