history

The festival was founded in 1998 and took place regularly in Gothenburg until 2007 . Its founding went hand in hand with the increasing popularity of Swedish synth-pop and electro-rock bands such as Covenant , Cat Rapes Dog and Saft . The founder and main person in charge of the festival was record producer Fredrik Rundqvist. Originally, SEMA was intended as a Swedish award for electronic music. In the following years, however, it spread across Scandinavia and, as SAMA, also opened up to other musical styles. The name was changed in 2003. During its 10-year history, over 50 winners have been selected in various categories. The tenth and final festival took place on April 6, 2007 in Trädgår'n in Gothenburg .
