The Scarab Bluff is a cliff on the east coast of the West Antarctic Alexander Island . It lies north of Giza Peak and towers over the Fossil Bluff Station . The plateau on the cliff contains a meltwater pool , which is designated as a biotope for biological studies.
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named the cliff on December 2, 1993 based on the naming of other objects in the area that are named after stereotypes for Ancient Egypt . It is named after the sacred pill turner ( Scarabaeus sacer ), the symbol for the resurrection and for the cycle of the sun (see scarab ).
