Scarlet's Remains was an American death rock and gothic punk band that was founded in 2003 by Tony Havoc in Los Angeles . Due to their rapidly growing popularity, Scarlet's Remains are among the groups that are largely responsible for the death rock revival in the USA, especially in California .

history

Tony Havoc, drummer and former member of the music groups Fearcult , Horrorshow , Hatesex and Voodoo Church , founded the band Scarlet's Remains in 2003 together with bassist Johann Schumann (formerly Christian Death , Shadow Project and Mephisto Walz ) and guitarist Brian Elizondo. In summer 2004 eveghost joined the group as a singer and thus completed the line-up.

The band sees itself influenced by bands like Christian Death , Xmal Germany , Killing Joke and the early Alien Sex Fiend . Within six months, the self-titled debut of Scarlet's Remains was recorded, and then in the spring of 2005 by the German label Dark Dimensions / Alice in ... published. In the summer of 2004, guitarist Brian Elizondo left the band and was temporarily represented by Benn Ra from Diva Destruction . When Schumann finally left the group in 2006, new permanent members joined the formation in Bari Bari (guitar, formerly Christian Death and Mephisto Walz) and Marzia Rangel (bass, ex- The Deadfly Ensemble ).

In 2006 the live DVD Live at the Key Club was released , which offers a recording of a concert on March 30, 2006. In 2007 the band's second album, The Palest Gray, was released . The group's lyrics are usually in English, but the previous albums also feature a song with German lyrics ( metal halo , anatomy of self-destruction ).

Musical classification

The music of Scarlet's Remains can be assigned to modern death rock / gothic punk and takes on influences from the entire spectrum of music.

Created with modern production facilities, the music of Scarlet's Remains is composed of bright guitars that are played quickly and easily. The mostly simple, deep and heavy walking bass is partly drowned out by the extensive guitar playing. Nevertheless, the rhythm is described as primeval and driving.

The bass was used in songs such as B. The Palast Gray , compared to the original representatives of Gothic Punk and Death Rock, mixed more quietly, but always present and mostly played parallel to and accompanying the guitar.

The drums are based entirely on the ideals of early Goth-Punk bands like Siouxsie and the Banshees or The Southern Death Cult and are played very Tom-Tom- heavy and with little to no use of the cymbals . Likewise, the vocals are sung howlingly shrill and are compared with those of the Gothic-Punk band Xmal Germany .
