Scent of Flesh is a Finnish death metal band from Imatra that was formed in 2000.
history
The band was formed in 2000. Their first demo called Drowned Into the Darkness was recorded in early 2001 with six band members. At that time, the line-up consisted of guitarists Matti Viisainen, Herkko Miikki and Markus Toivonen, drummer Antti Suikkanen, bassist Sofian Gezuri and singer Niko Ahokas. With this demo, however, the band did not get the attention they wanted, so they went back to the studio that same year to record a second demo. At the demo Towards Eternal Lost only five members could be heard because Markus Toivonen had left the band. The demo was mixed by Miitri Aaltonen in the Music-Bros Studios .
Through the demo, the band reached a contract with Black Lotus Records for three albums and released the debut album Roaring Depths of Insanity in 2002. Before the album was even released, the band had already started developing new songs for the next album, which was im Should be published summer 2003. Black Lotus Records delayed the release, however, so that the band separated from the label. The band signed a deal with Firebox Records and released the second album called Valor in Hatred in 2004. After the release, Herkko Miikki and Sofian Gezuri left the band. Aleksi Susi replaced Miikki and Matti's brother Samu Viisainen became the new bass player.
In August 2005 the band went back to the studio and released the EP Become Malignity that same year. The release also included their first music video, recorded for the song Suicidal Cannibalism .
During the recording of the third album, singer Niko Ahokas left the band, so guitarist Matti Viisainen now also took over the vocals. In 2007 the band released the third album Deform in Torture .
In February 2007 guitarist Aleksi Susi was replaced by bassist Samu Viisainen. Jari Haapasalo joined the band as the new bass player.
style
The band plays an aggressive, technically demanding variant of Death Metal, which is described as a mixture of bands like Deicide , Nile Morbid Angel , Cannibal Corpse , Six Feet Under , as well as some Swedish Melodic Death Metal .
