The shepherd's bread and cakes GmbH is a German bakery based in Porta Westfalica . It has 750 branches and 5 production sites and employs 2,800 people (as of April 2018).

Schäfer's Brot is made up of the brands “Schäfer's Bread and Cake Specialties”, “Konditorei Meffert” and “Bäckerei & Konditorei Thürmann” and has been a subsidiary of the Edeka Group since the 1970s . The company trains specialist salespeople in the food trade , bakers and confectioners .

history

The company was founded as "Schäfer's" on October 1st, 1898 in Kleinenbremen by Daniel Rennekamp as a village bakery. In 1952 the bakery was taken over by his son-in-law Werner Schäfer and from 1962 on it operated as "Bäckerei Schäfer's". In the mid-1970s Werner Schäfer sold the company to Edeka Minden-Hannover . Since then, the company has grown steadily and in 2018 had around 750 branches. In the 2011 financial year, sales amounted to € 250.3 million.

Distribution and sale of Schäfer's bread are to be separated and the sales outlets are to be privatized.

Schäfers Brot includes the following bakery locations:

  • Schäfers bakeries from Porta Westfalica , approx. 200 branches
  • Meffert bakeries from Hanover , approx. 35 branches
  • Schäfers bakeries from Osterweddingen (since October 1996), approx. 110 branches
  • Schäfers bakeries from Teutschenthal , approx. 170 branches
  • Bakeries Der Leinebäcker (including Konfinesse and Der Stadtbäcker) from Hanover (since May 2000) with 15 branches
  • Thürmann bakery from Berlin-Mariendorf (since 1996) with around 200 branches

Production takes place mainly in

  • the bread factory in Lehrte , which was built from the beginning of 1998 to October 1999 and supplies around 250 branches,
  • the bread factory in Teutschenthal , which was built from February to November 1994 and supplies around 170 branches, and
  • the Thürmann bread factory in Berlin , which was built in 1996 and supplies around 200 branches.
