The Schöchl Yachtbau GmbH is an Austrian shipyard in Mattsee . In 1950, when the two sailing enthusiasts Johann and Gottfried Schöchl joined the carpentry shop founded by their grandfather and taken over by their father, the first clinker-built boats were built . After a few boats made of form-glued boatbuilding plywood and veneers, a trade license for boat building was obtained in 1957 , which finally turned the former joinery into a shipyard. Series production started in 1961 and polyester and epoxy were first used. In the period from 1962 to 1968, the first boats were sold across Europe. The shipyard was represented at boat shows in Hamburg and Zurich, the first "Schöchl Boot" won at the Kieler Woche and the design for the first Kielyacht was commissioned from EG van de Stadt , a yacht designer.

With the presentation of the Sunbeam 22 in Hamburg in 1968, the name, by which the Schöchl boats are still known today, appeared in public for the first time . Larger types widely used on inland lakes are the Sunbeam 23 and Sunbeam 24 .

In 1977, the engineer Manfred Schöchl, who joined the company in 1976, won the German championship in Corsair and in 1979 took part in the world championship.

The shipyard has been under the management of Gerhard Schöchl and Manfred Schöchl since 1995.
