The Schönbrunnerbad is an outdoor swimming pool in the 13th district of Hietzing in Vienna . It is located at the park of Schönbrunn Palace .

history

The pool is located on the wooded slope from the Gloriette to the flower ground floor, near the Maria-Theresia-Tor park entrance, from Hohenbergstrasse (12th district) and Grünbergstrasse.

The water reservoir, in which one could also bathe, is mentioned for the first time in a letter from the year 1838 from the then eight-year-old Archduke Franz Joseph to his brother Maximilian . It was used as a military swimming school in the First Republic . During the time of National Socialism it was used by the Wehrmacht , then by the British occupying forces until 1955 , as the 13th district in which the bath is located was part of the British sector of Vienna.

The bathroom was completely renovated in 1975 and opened to the public. In 2000/01, the bathroom was converted to the latest technology and equipped with a modern water treatment system. The Schönbrunnerbad is currently a privately run summer pool.
