The Job of his Life 2 - Again in Office is a German comedy of confusion by Hajo Gies from 2004. It is the sequel to The Job of his Life (2003).
action
Prime Minister Uwe Achimsen is admitted to the clinic with an acute heart attack. Because of the quick help, his life is not in danger, but he has to take it easy over the next few weeks and stay in the hospital. A severe blow for his secretary, Hein Feddersen, so shortly before the election. If Achimsen is not present for the election campaign, the previous member of the state parliament, Neuenfels, should be the winner. This is how you remember Achimsen's doppelganger Erwin Strunz. This will be called by telephone to the employment office and informed that he will have to take up a job in the north with immediate effect. In order not to lose his unemployment benefits, he accepts the post, although Erika is massively against it. She is currently preparing for a demo together with her garden neighbors Uschi and Reinhard Paschke. The government is planning to build a new runway for which the land of countless allotment garden owners will be used. Many like-minded people demonstrate for their allotment garden friends out of solidarity.
So that the real Uwe Achimsen disappears from the "scene", he is relocated under the name Erwin Strunz as a normal cash patient to a less comfortable area of the hospital. At the same time, the false Achimsen returned to work and, to the amazement of his political opponents, appeared at an important meeting. However, he is not prepared for this and when asked for a catchy topic for the final round of the election, he suggests the “sweet potato”. At first he met with a lack of understanding, but he quickly succeeded in convincing his colleagues of the advantages of sweet potatoes. The order is immediately sent to all canteens in public facilities to include dishes with sweet potatoes on the menu. He even gives specific recipes.
In his next action, Strunz challenges his political opponents even more. He and a large staff of MPs inspected the area intended for the construction of the new runway. It makes it unmistakably clear that the runway will not be built here at the expense of the allotment garden owners. He reaps misunderstanding on the part of politicians, but many thanks from the allotment gardeners. Even Achimsen's daughter is thrilled that her father decided against the building.
Ms. Blum, Uwe Achimsen's private secretary, suspects that her boss is someone else. She tells Bernd Neuenfels about it and before the rumor can spread even further, the real Achimsen is supposed to make a short visit to the office. For this action, Strunz is brought to the clinic by helicopter, where he swaps places with the Prime Minister. While there is now astonished to discover that the patient Strunz had no trace of a heart attack, but rather suffers from gallstones and urgently needs an operation, Achimsen opposes his political opponents. He presents himself as the trusted expert and can convince his secretary by showing a scar. Neuenfels stands there as the embarrassed and Achimsen wants to initiate a party expulsion process against him. The "return" takes place on the same day, so that Strunz presents himself to the population at a planned election event. Because of his loyalty to the people, he scores points with the people and in the evening he faces a TV duel in which he amazes his opponent beyond measure because of his honesty.
A noble suite was reserved for him together with Heide Achimsen for the night . Unexpectedly, the woman makes a scene for her exchange husband in front of the room waiter. Strunz learns that Heide Achimsen does not even want her husband to start another legislative term and hopes that the public will find out about the marriage problems, which will hopefully cost votes. When the real Uwe Achimsen reads about his alleged private problems in the newspaper, he is so angry that he leaves the hospital without further ado and confronts his wife. She explains to him that she is just trying to save him and no longer wants to watch him ruin himself and his health.
Despite everything, Uwe Achimsen wins the election. In his inaugural address, which Strunz will take on again, he thanks for the election, but does not accept it and resigns. Just as he had promised Heide Achimsen. Her husband is very angry at first, but in the end he accepts his wife's decision. He also expresses his very personal thanks to Erwin Strunz and fulfills his “last” wish: if he is a private patient, he can have his overdue gallstones removed in the hospital.
