Schönburg is a district of the town of Pocking in the Lower Bavarian district of Passau .

location

Schönburg is located about two kilometers southwest of Pocking on the edge of the Lower Bavarian hill country . The onion dome of the parish church can be seen for kilometers from the considerably lower Pockinger Heide.

history

The Lords of Schönburg have been attested here since 1120, to whom the later Bishop Johann von Schönburg also belonged and who were elevated to the status of barons in 1654. Between 1676 and 1680 Baron Georg Adolf von Schönburg built today's castle.

In 1692 the barons of Closen zu Gern and Arnstorf became lords of Schönburg Castle and enriched the complex around the middle of the 18th century with the elongated gatehouse north of the manor house. The chaplain had his apartment there.

The successors of the Closen were the Counts of Leyden. Count von Leyden voluntarily renounced the first class patrimonial court due to him . The Patrimonial Court II. Class Schönburg was confirmed on May 22, 1820. Under Count von Leyden it was responsible for 149 rear passengers . In 1848 the owner renounced the patrimonial jurisdiction with the reservation of the lower local police including the forest and hunting police.

Countess Melanie von Leyden, née Countess Montjoye, had the castle restored in 1842. In 1876 the Counts of Arco-Zinneberg bought Schönburg Castle. Countess Mechtilde was born here in 1879, and after her marriage to the imperial diplomat Prince Karl Max von Lichnowsky, she became known as a writer under the name Mechtilde Lichnowsky . The current owner is Peter Mühlbauer, who received the monument award from the HypoKulturstiftung Munich in 1996.

When the remaining Tutting − Pocking line of the Simbach am Inn-Pocking railway line was opened on December 1, 1914 , Schönburg was given its own station. Here, an industrial line left the station in a westerly direction. The railway line was finally shut down in 2003 and a cycle path was built on its route in 2008.

Schönburg, originally beneficiary of the parish Weihmörting from an ecclesiastical point of view , was elevated to an exposition in 1886 and a parish in 1921 .
