The Schöne Aussicht mountain is a 364.8 m high elevation in the town of Bad Salzungen , Oberrohn district , in the Wartburg district in Thuringia .
The mountain is located on the eastern edge of the Frauensee forest and has been used for forestry for centuries. In the past, the wood from the forest was used to fire the Salzinger Saline, 4 kilometers away. The constant need for firewood resulted in large-scale clear cuts. The beautiful view from a hunting lodge located there in the direction of the Thuringian Forest and the Rhön , which was praised 100 years ago, can no longer be experienced today due to the reforested forest. If you follow the forest path along old boundary stones to the south, after 600 meters you will come across the old execution site "Thick Oak" from Tiefenort, where there is an approximately 500-year-old tree veteran on the circular hiking trail and the "Ziegeunergrab", only 100 meters away.
