Schönenberg is a district of the municipality of Jettingen-Scheppach in the Swabian district of Günzburg ( Bavaria ).
location
The parish village is about two kilometers south of Jettingen and can be reached via the district roads GZ 25 and GZ 16 .
history
Schönenberg is mentioned for the first time in 1199 when a farm in the village was donated to the Wettenhausen monastery . In 1330 the whole place came into the possession of the monastery through purchase. During the Thirty Years' War , the whole area was badly devastated, and by exiles (religious refugees), mainly from Austria, a gradual resettlement took place. In 1803 Schönenberg came to the Kingdom of Bavaria in the course of secularization .
In 1846 an L6 stone meteorite weighing around eight kilograms fell in the place . He was registered under the official name Schönenberg .
On January 1, 1972, the previously independent community of Schönenberg was incorporated into the community of Jettingen-Scheppach.
