The Mariaposching pumping station is a listed building for flood protection on the Danube in the Mariaposching community .

The flood pumping station stands in a single location in the Mariaposching district. It was built in 1933 to protect the dike hinterland against flooding during floods. The outflows from a part of the Sulzbach polder , from the local area of Mariaposching and from the agricultural areas north and west of the village run over nameless ditches to the pumping station and here at low and medium water levels of the Danube further in the open over a sluice into the river. When the Danube floods, however, the sewer is closed and the pumps of the pumping station deliver up to 1.8 m³ / s of the inflowing water through a pressure shaft into the Danube. The permissible inland water level here is 312.08  m above sea level. NN .

In the municipality of Mariaposching there are still the Sulzbach and Sommersdorf pumping stations .

Architecture and history

The single-storey solid building has a floor area of around 40 square meters and is aligned along the inside of the dike. A square tower similar to a transformer tower station is inserted at the southeast corner , at which a three-part overhead line ends. The pump chamber is accessed from the front from the west. The pyramid roof of the tower and the hipped roof of the pump house drop from the ridge at an angle of about 45 degrees, after a kink they run out quite flat towards the eaves. The inlet system north of the Hinterdeichweg originates from the construction period of the system. A relief plaque depicting a farmer and an inscription is embedded on the north wall. The pumping station was placed under monument protection on July 13, 2010 by the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments. The Danube cycle path runs along the Hinterdeichweg on the north side of the building .
