from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The shooting club Treffurt 1516 eV is a shooting club from the small town of Treffurt in the Wartburg district in Thuringia . It has existed as an association since 1516 and celebrated its 500th anniversary in 2016. The club is a member of the Wartburgschützenkreis, the Thuringian Schützenbund and the Landessportbundes Thuringia . In addition to shooting sports , the aim of the club is to maintain the tradition of German shooting.

history

The Treffurt rifle guild, whose beginnings go back to the 15th century, founded the rifle club in 1516. A corresponding entry can be found in the Hessian State Archives in Marburg . This makes it one of the oldest shooting clubs in Germany. When rebellious farmers invaded the Treffurt estate in the course of the peasant war in 1525 , they were supported with firearms by the rifle club. In 1528, the city leaders withdrew the right to handle firearms from the rifle guild. Until the riflemen regained their rights in 1535, they had to make do with crossbows.

In 1843 the association offered the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm IV the honorary title of Treffurter Schützenkönig. He thanked the club by donating a new rifle flag to the club, which replaced its predecessor from 1750. A rifle chain from 1785 and a bronze cannon from 1757 are preserved in the association's holdings .

In 1926 a shooting hall with a stage and dance floor was built on the traditional fairground of the Treffurter Schützen on the south bank of the Werra. It was relocated to its current location during the GDR era to make room for the lifting technology plant of the TAKRAF combine .

Shooting festival

Every year the association organizes the Treffurter Schützenfest , which took place for the 499th time in July 2015. The first rifle festivals of the Schützengilde took place in the 15th century. On this occasion, shooting is traditionally carried out at paper targets and a wooden bird carved from larch wood. If this falls, three gun shots are fired; the victorious shooter becomes the shooter king. The association thus also maintains the classic traditions of the historical rifle brotherhoods .
