Federal Chess League 2001 (Switzerland)

In the 2001 season of the Swiss Bundesliga in chess , SV Wollishofen , the chess club Birsfelden / Beider Basel and the defending champion ASK Winterthur fought a three-way battle for the title. In the penultimate round, Birsfelden / Beider Basel lost its title chances through a defeat against Wollishofen, who also won the last round and thus became national champions, while Winterthur even dropped to 4th place after a defeat against Birsfelden / Beider Basel. From the 2nd Bundesliga , the Club d'échecs de la Chaux-de-Fonds was promoted , which achieved relegation, while the SK Aarau had to relegate. In addition, SV Birsfelden / Beider Basel withdrew their team to the 1st regional league. Promotion game to the 1st Bundesliga

The winners of the two second division relays qualified for the promotion game with the Niederrohrdorf chess club and Schwarz-Weiss Bern . The competition took place on September 22nd in Olten . Niederrohrdorf prevailed with 5½: 2½ and was promoted to the 1st Bundesliga. However, due to the withdrawal of SV Birsfelden / Beider Basel, Schwarz-Weiss Bern was also allowed to rise.
