history

On July 1, 1969, Schaephuysen was incorporated into the municipality of Rheurdt.

Natural space

The Schaephuysener Heights are named after the place. These form part of the Lower Rhine ridge , which was created as a terminal moraine in the Saale Ice Age and extends, with interruptions, from Krefeld to Nijmegen .

This mountain range causes a certain risk of flooding during heavy rain in summer. The fields on the ridge are also at great risk of erosion .

Club life

Of the clubs based in the village, the youth fire brigade and the fistball players became known on a supraregional level. Among other things, SV Schaephuysen hosted the national championship for male youth (15-16 years) in indoor fistball in 2005 and came in 6th there. The table tennis club is also very popular. This managed to rise to the men's regional league (third highest German division) in 2009. The RuFV Tönisberg-Schaephuysen riding club, with many active members, is also one of the most successful in the district. The second largest sports club in Schaephuysen is the tennis club with over 200 active leisure and popular athletes.

The Association for Garden Culture and Home Care was also particularly successful, winning the gold medal at the federal level in 1977 in the competition “ Our village should be more beautiful ”. Since then, other prizes have been won in this competition, but it was not enough for gold at the federal level. The marine minstrel march 1954 has enjoyed great popularity in cultural village life for over 60 years. The appearances of the maritime minstrel march at rifle and town festivals range from Buxtehude to Neustadt an der Weinstrasse and make the place name Schaephuysen known far beyond the municipality's borders.

festival

The Schaephuysen Heimspiel music festival has been held annually on the market square since 2016 . In 2018 the festival, whose proceeds always go to charitable purposes, had 1,600 spectators and was therefore sold out.
