Schafbergbad
The Schafbergbad is a public summer pool operated by the municipality of Vienna , which is located in Vienna's municipal districts 17 ( Hernals ) and 18 ( Währing ).
history
The Schafbergbad was founded shortly before the First World War as a supplement to a popular panoramic hotel on the Schafberg . During the war years 1914–1918, the number of visitors fell sharply, but the pool was expanded as early as 1924 and became one of the most popular summer pools in the western districts of Vienna. It remained in private hands even after the Second World War , but gradually fell into disrepair until it had to be closed in the late 1960s. The facility was taken over by the municipality of Vienna under Mayor Felix Slavik and first opened as a public bath in the 1973 swimming season. In 1974 there were further modifications. In 2000 it was supplemented with a 102-meter-long water slide , at that time the longest in Vienna.
General
The Schafbergbad has a capacity of around 10,000 people and has a pool landscape with a water slide and a small diving tower. There are also beach volleyball courts, mini golf , table tennis and other leisure and sports facilities. Up to 270,000 bathers are counted per season. The area is around 70,000 m² and, due to its elevated location - similar to the Döblinger Krapfenwaldlbad - offers an excellent view of Vienna.
