Schafsbrücke (right)
The Schafsbrücke in Recht , a district of the Belgian municipality of Sankt Vith in the province of Liège , is about 4.50 meters long and about 3.50 meters wide. The bridge has been a protected cultural monument since 1995 .
A bridge at this point of the stream is mentioned in a document as early as 670. However, it is unclear when the current bridge was built. Up until the French Revolution , the brook formed the border between the rule of St. Vith and the County of Salm , as well as between the dioceses of Cologne and Liège .
The massive building has wedge-shaped stones that are arranged in a round arch. The surface was covered with right slate , which was removed in the 20th century.
Since there used to be heathland across the stream , the sheep of the right farmers were driven across the bridge to graze, hence the name Schafsbrücke probably comes from.
