Schalom (also Schalom - Jüdischer Glaube - Jewish life ) is a cultural broadcast of the Bavarian radio . It is broadcast on Fridays from 3:05 p.m. to 3:20 p.m. on the radio program Bayern 2 . The program is produced by the Religion and Orientation editors of the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation and is designed by the regional association of Jewish religious communities in Bavaria . The title of the show refers to the Hebrew term shalom [שלום]. The program is also available as a podcast to view or subscribe to via iTunes .

concept

The focus of each individual broadcast is the preparation for the Sabbath , which begins on Friday evening. The introduction is followed by a report devoted to a single aspect from Jewish culture, history or religion. The selected topics often correlate with the Jewish calendar and regularly have a direct current or historical reference to the various Jewish communities in Bavaria.

In the second part of the program, Rabbi Joel Berger comments on the current Parascha , the weekly portion of the Torah that is read on the following Sabbath.

Finally, the light ignition times for the Schabbes candles are announced for all places in the transmission area with their own Jewish community, from Pilsen to Frankfurt am Main. Since the time depends on sunset, it differs from week to week as well as from place to place.
