The judicial prison and head office building Scharnhorststrasse 1 is in the Eicken district in Mönchengladbach ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

The building was built between 1901 and 1912 and entered into the monuments list of the city of Mönchengladbach under No. Sch 005 on March 27, 1985 . Together with the courthouse at Hohenzollernstrasse 157, the buildings are also registered as the Mönchengladbach regional and district court under the number H 022.

location

The property is located in the Eicken district between Hohenzollernstrasse and Kaldenkirchener Strasse and was built between 1902 and 1912.

architecture

The prison is located in the back of the courthouse on Hohenzollernstrasse . The associated two-story office manager's house with a plastered facade is covered by a hipped roof.

The four to five-storey prison wing is built for 100 prisoners , in accordance with the ministerial regulations for new prison buildings at the time. The facade facing Rheinbahnstrasse is richly structured with corner and central projections.

The regional and district court Mönchengladbach forms a structural and historical unit with the judicial prison and the adjoining office manager's residence. The maintenance of the building complex is in the public interest for artistic, scientific, in particular architectural, local and social history as well as urban planning reasons.
