Saturnalia Temple is a Swedish stoner-doom band from Stockholm that was formed in 2006.

history

The band was founded by singer and guitarist Tommy "Tommie" / "Daemon Kajgal" Eriksson in 2006 (ex- Therion , ex- Nocturnal Rites ). On the 2007 demo UR , the group consists of Eriksson, drummer Paul, guitarist Konstantin Papavassiliou and bassist Ignatius of Loyola. The sound carrier was also released as an audio cassette on Nuclear Winter Records . In 2009 a self-titled EP followed , on which Peter can be heard as the new bass player. In 2011 the debut album Aion of Drakon was released , on which the group consists of Erkisson, Paul and Peter. Then on September 11, 2011 Paul was replaced by the new drummer Mikael "Micke" Norrby. Norrby was later replaced by Jens Gustavsson, who however died on July 15, 2013. Eriksson then took over the drums in the studio while the band played live with various drummers. In February 2015, the group went on a European tour with a live drummer , performing in France , the Netherlands , Germany , Belgium and Austria . In addition, a music video for the song To the Other was released. In the same month the album of the same name was released on Listenable Records . Tim Call can then be heard as the drummer.

style

Janne Stark described the band's music in his book The Heaviest Encyclopedia of Swedish Hard Rock and Heavy Metal Ever! as a simple mix of Black Sabbath , Hawkwind and Hellhammer with slight influences from British Heavy Metal of the 1980s. He assigned the music to Death Doom . According to theantifleshnimbus.wordpress.com , the band play doom metal with occult themes. In the interview, Eriksson stated that he hardly tries to use any effects in the songs, apart from a little delay in vocals and on the electric guitar and a wah-wah effect device. John from lurkersgrave.com also noted the occult theme of the songs in his review of Aion of Drakon . The music is similar to that of Pentagram , Black Sabbath and Celtic Frost. The bass sounds very deep and the electric guitars can be heard a strong use of fuzz effects. According to Simon Dümpelmann from Rock Hard , the band plays Doom Metal, which is harsh and hypnotic. In addition, the group relates more to occult topics than other bands in the genre. In an interview with Dümpelmann, Erkisson stated that he never sat down with the intention of writing songs. Instead, he waits for the appropriate state of mind, whereby “songs grow from timeless experiences, but are born in lightning moments”. The songs would then often be recorded immediately and land directly on the album. Andreas Schiffmann had reviewed To the Other an issue earlier . He described the music as a mix of black metal , space rock and doom metal. In addition, the music sounds psychedelic . On The Sludgelord, the music of Saturnalia Temple becomes lonely, bleak stoner metal with hints of violently disfigured Occult Rock . In the review of the second album on Stormbringer.at, the parts of Stoner Rock are described as mandatory for Saturnalia Temple. The band is certified there to be extreme excesses of Doom, Stoner and Drone . On Roadburn.com the music is described as "Stoner Psychedelic Black Doom" and compared to a significantly slower version of the stoner rock band Kyuss . At Monkey Castle the music is described as “a crude mixture of Doom / Stoner Metal with black metallic vocals”, which is recommended to the “Stoner / Doom faction that can think outside the box”.
