history

Forrest Fenn was diagnosed with cancer in 1988 at the age of 57 . During his illness, he decided to hide a bronze treasure chest that a finder could keep and its contents in case the finder finds his way to the chest by deciphering a riddle written by Fenn in verse. The box is filled with gold pieces, rare coins and relics, jewelry, precious stones and a bottle containing Fenn's autobiography . Fenn intended to leave the treasure as his legacy after his death, but survived his illness and hid the treasure in 2010 at the age of 79.

In March 2013, Fenn announced that the treasure is located in the Rocky Mountains north of Santa Fe, over 1,500 feet above sea level . The treasure cannot be found in Nevada , Idaho or Canada . On March 27, 2013, he stated that the treasure chest had no connection to houses or other man-made structures. On May 3, 2013, he announced that the treasure could not be found in any cemetery. The previous month, a treasure hunter was arrested by the police for suspecting a clue in a grave and digging it up.

The end of 2013 published his book Fenn Too far for walk , dt. "Too far to walk", which contains a map of the treasure. In January 2015, Fenn stated in an interview that the treasure chest was wet.

At least four people were killed in search of the treasure.

On June 6, 2020, Forrest Fenn confirmed that his treasure had been found. A treasure hunter sent him a photo of the box he found.

Fenn's poem

In Fenn's short biography "The Thrill of the Chase" , German "The thrill of the hunt" , which was published in 2010, a poem can be found that contains a total of nine references to the whereabouts of the treasure.

As I have gone alone in there
And with my treasures bold,
I can keep my secret where,
And hint of riches new and old.
Begin it where warm waters halt
And take it in the canyon down,
Not far, but too far to walk.
Put in below the home of Brown.
From there it's no place for the meek,
The end is ever drawing nigh;
There'll be no paddle up your creek,
Just heavy loads and water high.
If you've been wise and found the blaze,
Look quickly down, your quest to cease,
But tarry scant with marvel gaze,
Just take the chest and go in peace.
So why is it that I must go
And leave my trove for all to seek?
The answers I already know,
I've done it tired, and now I'm weak.
So hear me all and listen good,
Your effort will be worth the cold.
If you are brave and in the wood
I give you title to the gold.
